2 JUNE 2021: This year sees the centenary of the first expedition to Everest - the British Reconnaissance whose aim was to find and map the approaches to Everest and identify a possible climbing route to the summit. Together, the Royal Geographical Society and the Folio Society are celebrating the occasion by publishing a lavish two-volume collection of texts and images drawn from five expeditions over the years: the three in the 1920s - 1921, 1922 and 1924; one from the 1930s, in 1933; and the triumphant expedition of 1953, when Everest was finally climbed. Peter was commissioned to edit these two volumes, which have now been published. The outcome is magnificent. and was achieved despite the lockdown, which meant doing almost the entire project remotely and on line.
